a Speck in the forest
of cold gray concrete
and electrical lights.
Tattered clothes
and worn rags
adorn sore bodies
and bloody feet.
Sprawled on the tarmac,
by filthy smeared streets--
ground rumbling darkly
as cars swish by.
Shivers shake bodies
of the sick ones;
the ones who count their ribs
pronounced by pale skin.
Tears streak dirty cheeks,
leaving trails on faces
that shine in the
polluted orange moonlight.
Eyes trun to starless skies,
but there is no use:
trying to find Heaven
they'll be there soon enough.

The air in our house was cold, and my joints ached from yesterdays tedious housework. Shane had already left for another day of work.
